A French poet once wrote, “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” The joy that shines on a child’s face locking eyes with an animal is the manifestation of this belief. This wildlife encounter doesn't have to be at a public zoo or a fairground either. This precious meeting of a wild child and wildlife could be delivered to your own back yard.
The animals that are adored by all ages at Kings Island annually, though not this year due to COVID-19, belong to that of Honey Hill Farm. Located in northern Kentucky, the farm has specialized in private events since the late ’90s. From floppy-eared goats and vocal donkeys to curious wallabies and majestic camels, their property benefits from having a full-time staff made up of caretakers, zoologists, and volunteers.
Sally Powell, the owner of Honey Hill Farm, sees her animals as her own pets that thrive over more than 150 acres. As a child, she grew up in the city and did not have the opportunity to access animals as much as she would have liked. The desire to care for animals followed Sally all of her life and today she finds great joy in being able to share her “pets” with the community
What people may not know is that Honey Hill Farm provides unique up-close private encounters in Ohio, Kentucky, and parts of Indiana. Events ranging from birthday parties, school events, church events, and holidays are all in their repertoire. Their classic birthday combo package includes a hand led pony ride.
Wanting to really wow the kids? The Traditional 10 Animal Petting Zoo package includes chickens, ducks, a rabbit, sheep, goats, an alpaca, and a miniature horse or miniature donkey. If your kids are stuck at home learning from online videos, riding around on the pony of their dreams could be the trick to get them re-engaged this fall. Heck, you could even have a live nativity scene in your front yard this holiday season.
Because of the impact of COVID-19, Honey Hill Farm has a huge capacity of animals “at home” that would otherwise be on site with amusement parks. This allows private events to be even more customizable and tailored to anyone’s wants and needs.
If private events aren't for you and you want to support a small family-owned business, sponsor animals on the farm by visiting the Honey Hill Farm website and requesting more information.
And if you need a daily dose of adorable animals, be sure to follow them on Facebook.
