Sip Spotlight: The Avenue

I love bourbon, and I usually drink it neat. So, initially, my partner Jason and I didn't create any Mixicles flavors intended for mixing with whiskey. But then we were approached to host a cocktail station at Cincinnati’s first “Bourbon in the Park” event. The organizer asked whether we had any Mixicles that would pair well with bourbon. We didn't at the time, but promised to come up with at least three new flavor profiles for the festival.

While brainstorming ideas, Jason came across a recipe in Bourbon+ magazine for “The Avenue,” a classic bourbon cocktail with passion fruit, apple, orange, and pomegranate notes. That recipe inspired what has since become one of the most popular Mixicles flavors: Orange Blossom Pomegranate (sold online in our Distinctive Collection, and at Kroger stores, rebranded as Orange Blossom Passion Fruit).

Putting bourbon over ice can help smooth out and open up the flavors, but too much will dilute the spirit. With Mixicles, you get the benefits of chilling and enhancing your bourbon, without risking watering it down.

We suggest making this cocktail with a bourbon that is 100 proof or less so you don’t overpower the layered flavor of the cubes. But regardless of the whiskey you choose, we promise it will be tasty!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Orange Blossom Pomegranate Mixicles cubes
  • 2 oz bourbon

How to Mix:

  • Place the Mixicles cubes in a rocks glass, top with the bourbon, and stir. Alternatively, combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker, shake until cold, and then pour into a chilled coupe glass.
