Sip Spotlight: Smoked Old Fashioned

In Cincinnati, where playoff wins are the new bare-minimum standard, certain people have been known to celebrate championships by smoking cigars. And here at Mixicles, we’re all in to manifest an AFC championship for our hometown Bengals with our own smoky concoction. Presenting the Smoked Old Fashioned.

To create this cocktail, we combined Smoked Black Cherry Mixicles with bourbon and a dash of bitters. The result is sweet and tart from the cherries, with just enough smokiness imparted by the natural liquid hickory smoke in the Mixicles cubes. We used Barrel Aged Havana & Hide Bitters from 18.21 Bitters, which evoke the flavors of leather and cigar leaf, to bring in some spice notes as well as vanilla and cocoa, but orange bitters also would work great to tie it all together.

Smoked Black Cherry Mixicles pair best with a high-proof bourbon, and are perfect for sipping slowly while (hopefully!) savoring victory. Get ready now so that, come Sunday evening, everyone will be prepared for a smokin' celebration.

You can find Smoked Black Cherry Mixicles in our Distinctive Collection, which can be picked up before the game at any of the following local retailers: The Party Source, Spirits of Madeira, Oakley Kitchen Food Hall Market, The Cottage Paperie & Gifts, and ETC Produce & Provisions.
