Sip Spotlight: Holiday Knockout Punch

Two of the Mixicles flavors we created for Cincinnat's first "Bourbon in the Park" event — Orange Blossom Pomegranate and Blackberry Lemon Thyme — were so well received that we decided to serve them at a Cincy Chic holiday fashion show and shopping event that took place a few months later. Rather than pair both flavors with bourbon, however, this time we served Blackberry Lemon Thyme mixed with vodka.

To make service quick and simple, we combined fully melted Mixicles with the base spirits in advance and put the mixtures in dispensers. As we are apt to do, we sampled our drinks before serving them to guests. During a lull when guests were watching the fashion show, I had the idea to combine samples from both dispensers. Jason feared that an Orange-Blossom-Pomegranate-Blackberry-Lemon-Thyme-Bourbon-Vodka cocktail might be a tad much, but decided to go along with it (as he is apt to do). To his surprise, the combination of flavors resulted in a surprisingly well-balanced cocktail!

A word of caution: this cocktail is very easy drinking and really knocks a "punch."

HOLIDAY "KNOCKOUT PUNCH"

Ingredients:

  • 1 Orange Blossom Pomegranate Mixicles cube
  • 1 Blackberry Lemon Thyme Mixicles cube
  • 1 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz vodka

How to Mix:

  • Drop the Mixicles cubes into a shaker. Add the vodka and bourbon, shake for 30 seconds, and pour into a rocks glass. Garnish with blackberries and a sprig of thyme.
