Today is National Bourbon Day, when we celebrate America's "Native Spirit." Legend has it that bourbon was first produced on this day in 1789 by Reverend Elijah Craig.

Some folks put up their bourbon for the summer, instead going all in on gin, vodka, and tequila. To that we say, but whyyyyyy?! Perhaps you've never had a light and summery bourbon cocktail.

Let us implore you to try this one, created by Heather Wibbels, award-winning mixologist and Executive Bourbon Steward. It's perfect for people who think they don't like bourbon in the summer (or that they don't like bourbon). The bourbon notes recede below the lavender, but contribute a nice, balanced sweetness to it. Build it in a Collins glass for an easy summer serve.

For those interested in exploring bourbon cocktails, be sure to check out Heather's recently published book, Bourbon Is My Comfort Food. It's replete with interesting history, practical tips, gorgeous images, and delicious recipes!
