Chef Jaime Carmody and her team at Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio are celebrating five years in business by giving back to the community - through a big giveaway and also donations to two important local causes.
Carmody's career goes back to when she was working as a personal chef, operating out of her client's kitchens. Then, she took a leap of faith in March 2016 to launch Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio, a modern commercial kitchen and event space offering weekly meal delivery and pick-up, cooking classes, pop up dinners and private events.
Since then, she's battled through some unsavory obstacles - you know, like a global pandemic. "Every new business owner knows the first five years are the real test, so it was always my short term goal to expand carefully over each of those critical years," says Carmody. "Prior to 2020, our largest area of growth was hosting corporate events. When the shutdown happened, we were allowed to stay open as an essential business, but when all of our events canceled I started to question if we were going to make it."
Carmody quickly added different meal options and holiday packages to the menu, as well as online cooking classes. With the increase in sales generated by her new offerings and additional clients, Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio will be celebrating that five-year mark after all.
To safely celebrate this accomplishment, Carmody says Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio has several special offerings throughout March, and they all give back to local food-centered non-profits.
Through March 31, guests can receive a punch card for a free meal with the purchase of five meals. Then, for every fifth meal reached, Carmody will donate to two local charities: Loveland Interfaith Effort (LIFE) Food Pantry and La Soupe.
"I cook weekly for the food pantry, which provides school lunches, and the Out of Thyme staff cooks between 200-400 servings weekly for La Soupe," she says. "The best gift to celebrate our five years is to be able to give back to them in an even bigger way."
Carmody is also hosting a five-course chef dinner event in the Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio on March 20. This ticketed, socially-distanced event will feature a menu of favorite dishes from the past five years, with optional wine pairings.
As the celebration wraps up, a winner will be selected to receive a $500 studio package that includes gift vouchers for all services, meals, and merchandise. Guests can register for the giveaway by joining the email newsletter online here.
As Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio celebrates this hearty milestone for a small business, they're busy helping others celebrate, too. One of their main services is hosting private parties, both in-studio and off-site. These include birthdays, anniversaries, bridal showers, and team building events.
Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio also has meals to go, where clients can opt to be on a regular ordering schedule and have their weekly meals delivered on a set day. The studio is also open Monday through Saturday to the public for individual meal pickup. The menu is different every week and is updated on their website daily. Plus, Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio has a full bar for events and sells carryout wine and beer.
"People love popping by to pick up meals and carryout drinks," says Carmody. "Those items vary depending on the day and week. They're fully cooked and just need reheating. Super easy. Plus, all of our recipes and sauces are made in-house and from scratch."
Also popular at Out of Thyme Kitchen Studio are hands-on cooking classes. "We can do parties and events of all sizes, both for the public and corporate. We can do a full service staffed event or setup and drop off," she explains. "For adults and kids, too. It's really fun to have a learning environment in the middle of a working kitchen." While COVID encouraged a new virtual offering, in-studio classes are available with precautions in place.
