The weather is heating up. Time to fire up the grill... and your drink! Here's a complex-but-not-complicated cocktail that the Cocktail Contessa created using Smoked Black Cherry Mixicles — the perfect Manhattan to sip on while grilling.
The hickory in our Smoked Black Cherry cubes combines with the bitterness of the amaro to bring out the subtle spice notes of the whiskey. If you use a whiskey with cherry notes, you’ll pull that flavor through the drink.

SMOKY BACKYARD MANHATTAN
- 1 Smoked Black Cherry Mixicles cube
- 1 ounce amaro
- 2 ounces bourbon (or rye for a spicier kick)
- Luxardo cherries and orange peel for garnish (optional)
Let the Mixicles cube thaw a little, and then add it, the amaro, and the whiskey to a mixing glass, fill with ice, and stir for 30 seconds. Strain into a glass and top with cherries and an orange peel. Turn the burgers one last time. Sip.
