It’s patriotic, it’s unique and it’s delicious.
This an arugula, watermelon, feta salad with balsamic glaze is the perfect way to kick off Summer, says Chef Ken Durbin, owner of The At Home Chef.
Durbin says to take it up a notch, you can grill the watermelon, add some balsamic pearls atop the drizzled balsamic glaze, and pop in a few pickled radishes for even more flavor.
Using all locally-sourced ingredients also adds more flavor. “I got everything for this salad at Findlay Market, mainly from ETC Produce and Provisions. They source everything from a variety of local farmers and just make it really easy,” says Durbin. “Sourcing locally means you're getting the freshest and most flavorful ingredients as possible. Plus, you’re supporting people in your community.”
With The At Home Chef, a Greater Cincinnati-based private chef service, Durbin primarily cooks with all organic ingredients, almost exclusively sourced within a 30-minute radius of Cincinnati, for all his custom, in-home dinner experiences.
"Everything from date night to dinner parties, it’s like a fine dining restaurant comes to you," he explains. "And proud to say I've never repeated a menu. That's because each dinner is a reflection of you. What are you celebrating? What’s in season? What’s your favorite food? Any dietary restrictions? We take all of that to heart when custom creating a meal for you and your guests.”
Not only does The At Home Chef custom create the menu with you, then source, prepare and serve your meal, they also take care of everything else, like clearing the table, cleaning your kitchen and taking out the trash (click here to see our recent review!).
"Set the table and we take care of the rest. We want you to be able to spend time with and enjoy your dinner and guests," he says. “My motto has always been 'Enjoy Life,’ and that’s why I love what I do so much. Every meal I create allows others the time and mental bandwidth to just enjoy their life. To be present, soak in whatever they’re celebrating, and spend quality time with those who matter most. That’s the best.”
