Main Street Ventures Makes Entrepreneurial Dreams Come True

Cincinnati's becoming well-known for its robust start-up community. Thanks in part to organizations like Main Street Ventures (MSV) that foster its growth and success with grants, mentors, and resources for existing and aspiring entrepreneurs alike.

MSV launched in 1999 with a focus on providing tech companies with a physical structure and wifi network. In 2010, MSV launched The Brandery, a seed-stage startup accelerator that leverages the expertise of the Cincinnati region - namely branding, marketing, and design. As the needs of the entrepreneurial ecosystem have evolved, MSV launches new initiatives to meet the challenges of the future.

Today, MSV is an entrepreneur support organization that helps people with business ideas through grant funding and other assistance. To date, the MSV team has supported more than 100 organizations. Businesses can apply for two different types of grants through the organization.

The first is the “Launch Grant,” with $5,000 to $10,000 in funds; it is intended for pre-revenue companies. These companies must show direct customer engagement to legitimize the business model.

The second grant is called the “Leap Grant,” which gives $10,000 to $30,000 in funding to revenue-generating businesses. This grant focuses on the business’s community impact and long-term survival. This grant is typically awarded to companies that show continued growth in creating regional jobs.

They also offer several programs such as "Launch It: Cincy" which is a pitch competition exclusively for undergraduate students in the Tri-State area - stretching from Dayton to Lexington. The unique prize package will support the winning teams to stay in Cincinnati over the summer, build relationships within the Startup Community, and focus on building their business.

In addition, MSV's newest program, Inventure Entrepreneurship Academy, will further develop the entrepreneurial mindset in our region’s high school students and inspire next-gen leaders. Inventure Entrepreneurship Academy is a week-long immersive experience for high school students in Hamilton County interested in entrepreneurship.

This free program takes students through the ideation process, teaches them valuable leadership skills, and provides business education from regional experts. At the conclusion of the program, participating teams will pitch their ideas for prize funding for their venture.
