It's hard to believe, but it's mid-August already! Before the summer comes to a close, squeeze in a staycation with the fam or a fun Labor Day weekend getaway.
The 21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati actually has a special "21c Escapes Road Trip" package right now to do just that. It includes:
- Complimentary valet parking
- Late noon checkout
- $50 credit to Metropole
- 15% off in the 21c gift shop for the coolest souvenirs in town
Located adjacent to the Contemporary Art Center, across the street from the Aronoff Center for the Arts, and on the streetcar line, 21c's boutique hotel is in the heart of everything downtown. But with their incredible spa, amazing restaurant Metropole, craft cocktails at their award-winning bar and lounge, and 24/7 multi-venue contemporary art museum, you may never actually leave the building.
"A staycation is a perfect way to enjoy new experiences and a change of scenery without too much advanced planning needed," says Jessica Tomain, director of sales and marketing at 21c Cincinnati. "There's been so much growth in and around downtown that a little weekend stay gives you the opportunity to explore and take it all in."
On a personal note, I recently did a weekend stay at 21c with my whole family -- husband, three kids, and puppy -- and it was so much fun. As a mom, I loved that there wasn't a ton of packing, no being stuck in the car for hours on a road trip, and we got to check out so many great places I’ve been wanting to go but haven’t had the time.
When we arrived, they had adorable dog treats shaped like yellow penguins (21c's iconic mascot) and a yellow dog bed to keep the pup happy and comfy during his stay. We got an explorer kit and cute art supplies from the gift shop to keep the kids entertained in the room and while we waited at restaurants. I loved that the valets always had dog treats when I took the dog out on walks, and there's surprisingly a ton to do downtown with kids and pets!
We walked to Brewdog for dinner and drinks our first night. Then, Saturday, we went to Washington Park, which has a great splash pad and playground for the kids, as well as a nice dog park for the pup. That night, we had a little family photoshoot on Fountain Square, threw some pennies in the fountain for good luck in our new school year, and then took our dressed-up crew to Metropole for dinner. It's the fanciest restaurant the kids have been to so far, so I was nervous about how well they'd do. The crew at Metropole made it so fun. They had penguin coloring pages for the kids, kid-friendly foods, and Chef de Cuisine, Zach Barnes, even took my two girls (both aspiring chefs) on a little behind-the-scenes tour, which they loved and still talk about. After dinner, we went upstairs to take a look around the art museum, and then had some cookies and milk for dessert in the room. Best day ever.
Sunday, I went for a run with the pup through downtown and Northern Kentucky -- I figured we don't get to see the skyline or run on cool bridges at home! Then, the whole family went to Pins to play arcade games and duck pin bowling. It's not only dog-friendly, but it's also free for kids on Sundays! We did a lot of walking around town with the dog, but if you have a service dog, keep in mind that you can take them on the streetcar!
Such a fun trip, and it was all here in the city we love! Interested in taking a staycation of your own? Check out 21c's website to see their special offers, snag a gift certificate or book your visit!
