Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra's Summermusik festival kicks off this weekend

What do Afro-Cuban music, Grammy Award-winning musician Arturo Sandoval, Beethoven, Rock and Roll mash-ups, a comedy club and chamber music all have in common? SUMMERMUSIK, a month-long summer music festival hosted by the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra that starts this weekend!

From Aug. 5 to Aug. 26, Cincinnati will host unforgettable concert music experiences that everyone can enjoy in ways you'd never imagine. For example, attendees will enjoy:

  • Performances narrated by comedians at Go Bananas Comedy Club.
  • Chamber ROCK returns. Nine piece ensemble performing mash-ups of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck and some surprises.
  • 10 time Grammy Award winner trumpet player, Arturo Sandoval -- Hurry! Almost sold out!
  • In a world premiere, Cincinnati-based pianist Awadagin Pratt performs a new reconstruction of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 6 in D Major
  • And an exploration into how the deaf and hearing impaired experience music through works of composers who dealt with their own hearing loss.

"There's truly something for everyone at every price point and taste," says Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra Executive Director, Evan Gidley. "Concert settings are intimate, promoting access to the performers. Plus, lots of surprises! We're really aiming to create moments to remember."

Gidley says this year’s highlights include:

  • Cincinnati’s own Awadagin Pratt (piano) in addition to 10-Time Grammy Award Winner Arturo Sandoval (trumpet)
  • Collaborations with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, Revolution Dance Theatre, Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Collegium Cincinnati
  • Unique venues including The Redmoor, Go Bananas Comedy Club, and Urban Artifact

Tickets start at $30 for adults. “Children under 13 are free for most concerts and $10 for students," Gidley adds.
