Picture this: delicious farm-to-fork food and a gorgeous country scene that extends for acres. For the setting of your next big event, what more could you ask for? Walhill Farms in Batesville, IN has all of that and more, and it's only a mere 40 minutes from Downtown Cincinnati.
Drawing people from both Cincinnati and Indianapolis respectively, this working farm doubles as an event center where you can gather to celebrate weddings, host fundraisers, or hold other events like team building exercises with your co-workers.
For such occasions, the farm offers two unique indoor spaces:
THE SULKY LODGE
This quaint, Bavarian-style lodge is 12,000-square-feet and can fit up to 125 people for the purposes of a wedding or another event. It features a hall, a dining area, a billiards room, and a bar. Contrary to its name, you will not be pouting about anything here.
If rustic-chic is more your style, The Barn was converted from a horse barn into an event space and still retains all the charm and character of its original purpose. It's also about 12,000-square-feet, and can host up to 600 people.
...Not to mention the 250 acres filled with flowers, gardens, pastures, and ponds, giving you a stunning and picturesque backdrop you can't find in the city. In fact, manager Peter Hillenbrand says a lot of couples decide to get married outside because of how beautiful the grounds are.
"We have a lot of really beautiful, creative spaces around our pond," says Peter. "A lot of people will get married [outside] and then have their reception in The Barn afterward."
And because they're a working farm, Walhill Farm offers catering with food grown and raised on the property using sustainable and humane practices. They even have a retail shop where you can buy some of their homegrown products.
Too tired to drive home after partying into the night? The farm also has its own inn with four cozy rooms available to rent.
As if the all-in-one package couldn't get better, it does. The farm often extends its hospitality to the community, supporting many local not-for-profits, holding special dinners, and hosting the annual Bacon Blues & Brews Music & Arts Festival.
And Peter says while looking on their website is a good way to gather information, Walhill Farm is just a place you have to experience to fully understand its vibe.
"It’s a very natural, smaller, more personal experience," says Peter. "Because we’re out in the country and we’re not in a big city, we’re able to offer a product and a service that's not only more unique than anything you can find in the city, but it’s far more affordable."
Walhill Farm is located at 857 Six Pine Ranch Road in Batesville, Indiana (47006).
