Cincinnati is my main squeeze, but sometimes I just need to switch it up scenery-wise. Luckily for all of us, we sit at the epicenter of doable weekend getaways. From big cities like Cleveland and Chicago to smaller towns like Madison, IN and Maysville, KY, there's always something to see somewhere else when wanderlust strikes.
Louisville is within that reasonable drive distance for a weekend getaway. And if you plan on heading to Derby City, the Bergman Loft in Louisville-adjacent New Albany, IN is the perfect place to rest your head.
Residing in the East Market neighborhood of New Albany (which is just over the river from downtown Louisville), the 6,000-square-foot Bergman Loft faces a picturesque street complete with boutiques, coffee shops, and sidewalk restaurants. It's located in a handsome three-story, southern-facing brick building (perfect for natural sunlight), and features an alley on its eastern side with a mural of astronaut cats.
Hidden from the street but open to the air above is a 1,600-square-foot rooftop deck complete with astroturf, a grill, patio chairs & umbrellas, and outdoor loungers.
Inside, you'll find beautiful hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, lofted ceilings, huge windows, and (oddly enough) a freight elevator. You and up to 15 friends could stay there and have enough room to comfortably co-exist without being right on top of each other or using stairs the whole weekend.
Not convinced? Let's break down how big this place truly is.
- It has nine beds that can sleep a total of 16 people:
+ two king-size beds
+ two queen-size beds
+ a full-size bunk bed
+ a twin-size bed
+ a futon
+ two roll-away beds
- There are five bathrooms, two of which are half-baths.
- There's a full kitchen, a dining area, and the aforementioned outdoor grill
- A washer and dryer are on hand for convenience.
- Foosball and pool tables are on the third floor for those times in-between exploring New Albany and Louisville.
- It features a video library with a DVD player, as well as satellite and cable.
- Price averages to $520 per night. Split that 16 ways, and you have yourself an incredible place to stay for $33 per person!
But what would all that be without a little something extra, right? To top it all off, the owners of the loft recently renovated the neighboring loft, which is rentable in conjunction with this beauty. The second loft is equally filled with original character, modern amenities, and a killer rooftop deck. Combine the rentals together, and you have room for over 20 people.
Convinced yet? The gallery above will surely bring anyone still left crossing their arms onboard. When you inevitably book your weekend away here, can I get an invite?
