I’m not from Cincinnati, so I always love an extended visit from a friend or family member back East — as long as they don’t stay longer than three days. More than that, and I start to feel like an overworked and underpaid concierge/housemaid, however graceless that may make me sound.
So I was delighted to have recently discovered the Inn of Hyde Park, a newly revamped bed and breakfast just off Hyde Park Square. It’s less than a mile from my house, and it saves me the embarrassment of having guests’ first introduction to the Queen City be some chain hotel off I-75.
Now, bed and breakfasts tend to get a bad rap as being more grandma and less mod, but thanks to a recent remodel, the Inn of Hyde Park is a different breed of B&B. Formerly known as Grace and Glory Bed and Breakfast, the revamped space is classic yet chic and feels as if you're staying at the home of a friend with very good taste. Well-appointed touches include a coffee bar and newly constructed deck, as well as a spacious front porch and common area with a functional brick fireplace and large-screen TV. Anyone who’s been to Hyde Park is well aware of how challenging the parking situation is, but the Inn is fortunate enough to have a lot that accommodates up to four vehicles.
As for the rooms, each features its own bathroom (important!), individually controlled AC, cotton linens, and free wifi. The Inn’s largest suite offers a solarium in addition to a second seating area.
Of course, no bed and breakfast can get away with not providing guests with the most important meal of the day, and at the Inn of Hyde Park, that means a gourmet selection of fresh and organic food each morning, plus accommodations for any dietary requests so long as the Inn is notified in advance.
Needless to say, from now on, anyone who says they want to come visit for four days or more, will politely be pointed in the direction of checking this place out.
