Cincinnati is home to many inner-city hotels. Travelers have sought lodging since the early years, and the Queen City has never failed to provide myriad options for a little pillow-chocolate goodness. And while many older hotels were demolished over time, new ones arose to provide a warm bed for those beyond their borders.
The Hyatt Regency Cincinnati, located at the corner of 5th and Elm Streets, is one of several that sprang up within the last half century. However, you wouldn’t know it’s over 30 years old if you stayed there; after recently completing a $32 million dollar renovation, the Hyatt shimmers with renewed modernity.
491 totally refurbished rooms (12 of which are new studio suites with a wet bar and incredible view) prop up the 23-floor hotel building overlooking Downtown. Each room is outfitted with new beds, WIFI, an updated bathroom, and every other amenity one would expect from a contemporary hotel.
But who’s watching TV in their room when they have everything else the hotel has to offer?
Red Roost Tavern, Hyatt’s exclusive farm-to-table concept restaurant and bar, sits just behind the front desk. An indoor pool illuminated by a skylight ripples high above city streets. And if you’re lucky enough to receive an invitation to one, a newly-renovated hotel ballroom (the largest in the city) routinely hosts lavish events.
And does mention of Hyatt's location even need reiteration? It’s within walking distance of many Downtown attractions and restaurants, and a mere three blocks from a streetcar station that can take patrons to Over-the-Rhine.
But let’s go back inside the hotel for a moment.
The lobby’s naturally-lit atrium spans several stories without reaching up to the rooms above it. Hyatt’s Sungarden is here; a photogenic event space unburdened by closed doors and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking 5th Street. Frequenters of the skywalk system have undoubtedly passed by the garden on their way to the Duke Energy Convention Center or the Carew Tower.
Additionally, Hyatt sports 18 meeting rooms and multiple boardrooms fit for any level of corporate congress. The latest technologies adorn the walls and tables to make meeting both in person and in a virtual space effortless.
I could go on.
An overnight at Hyatt Regency Cincinnati is the quintessential hotel experience and worthy of the legacy of Queen City hospitality established by the hotel luminaries preceding it. Check out the photo gallery above to glimpse this gorgeous place.
