Jane’s Saddlebag is a folksy heritage site filled with various attractions and lots of character. The Union, KY property is family-owned and has been in the Blackmore family since 2004 when Pete Blackmore bought the farm and opened a restaurant in the 1800s home on the estate. He named it after his mom, Jane, in her memory after she passed away. Pete’s son Brett Blackmore owns the business today with manager Tony DeMatteo. Jane’s now features a Whine Shoppe, General Store, Amphitheater, Kids Playground, and Kids Village for guests to enjoy. A portrait of Jane in the restaurant.{ }The name "Saddlebag" comes from the rural style home where the restaurant now resides. The building was built in the 1800s and was a "saddle bag house," which were homes that featured two rooms side by side, a shared chimney, and is no bigger than one and a half stories high. The restaurant serves hamburgers, steaks, potato salad, and desserts with varying specials. / Image: Katie Robinson, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 4.16.19 / Image: Katie Robinson, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 4.16.19

The Whine Shoppe offers a variety of Kentucky and national wines sold by the glass, bottle, and in wine tastings. Jane’s Saddlebag is in the production of making their own bourbon-barrel wine, and guests especially enjoy the fruity wine slushies. They also make a small-batch, award-winning bourbon. It’s won a gold medal three years in a row from The Fifty Best blind bourbon tasting competition in New York. / Image: Katie Robinson, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 4.16.19
One of the biggest events held at Jane’s is the Wine Festival. It’s one of the largest wine festivals in the state, celebrating around a dozen Kentucky wineries and plenty of craft vendors. It will be held May 18 and 19 of this year. / Image: Katie Robinson, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 4.16.19

An old-fashioned smokehouse was also discovered on the property when it was purchased. It was reassembled and moved further behind the restaurant at one point and now functions as storage rather than preserving and smoking meats like it once did. / Image: Katie Robinson, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 4.16.19
