  This is the striking facade of Newark's live music venue Thirty One West. Built in 1902 (when the large number of local venues earned the town the nickname 'Little Chicago'), the space has had many lives including serving as a dance hall and meeting space for Oddfellows, a furniture showroom, and an event space.  Early Bright Chinese witch-hazel in bloom at Dawes Arboretum is just one of the 17,000 plants there. The arboretum includes nearly 2,000 acres of gardens, collections of plants, and natural areas.  Seen here are the 1,800 seats of the Midland Theatre in downtown Newark. Built in 1928, it fell into hard times in the 1970's and eventually closed after the Blizzard of '78 caused irreparable damage. After sitting vacant and abandoned for 14 years, it underwent an eight-year, $8.5 million-dollar renovation to reopen in 2000 as a performance venue for live music, classic films, and other performing arts events. Bryn Du Mansion in Granville is on the National Register of Historic Places. The mansion consists of 52 rooms and has 12 fireplaces while the grounds cover more than 50 acres. These cars were built in Newark and used for mass transportation in the early 1900's. This particular car was actually converted into a stationary, private residence in the 1970s until it was removed from its lot, completely renovated, and turned into a permanent exhibit.
