Chicago-based Novel Coworking began turning Cincinnati's Hooper Building into a seven-story suite of private and communal office space in 2018. Today, the building's filled with both large and small businesses that make daily use of its central location downtown, various amenities, and high-speed internet. Novel offers single-occupancy offices, larger multi-person offices, and full private suites that range in price depending on size. True to its name, Novel also has open coworking space accessible through a monthly membership. ADDRESS: 151 W 4th Street (45202) / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 2.11.20
Novel Coworking is the largest owner-operator of coworking space in the country. The distinction of owner-operator is key to that claim—Novel's model relies on buying historic buildings, renovating them, and opening new offices in cities across the United States. Founder Bill Bennett made a choice early in Novel's formation to own each building in order to invest in the space to the degree that renting wouldn't permit. Cincinnati's Novel Coworking space already has many tenants who work from private offices and suites daily. Companies like Turner Construction, Ninjology, BS LLC (pictured), and Valvoline all have people working from within Novel's private offices. At the time of this writing, private offices begin at $549 per month and include access to Novel's espresso bar, local draft beer on tap, fiber internet, mail service, and more. While Novel's primary function is as a place where businesses can set up a base for their operations or expand with dedicated satellite offices, coworking space (that is, a place to work that isn't a private office) is also offered. For those who don't need their own office but want to post up at a table or in a chair with access to the communal kitchen, a monthly membership of $179 is available. There is secured access for members 24/7. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 2.11.20
In addition to physical space, Novel does community lunch & learns, happy hours, and other special events for its members. HR services and discounts on health insurance are available, too. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 2.11.20
