Maya: The Exhibition has opened at the Cincinnati Museum Center, making its debut in the United States. The exhibit showcases the lives and traditions of the Maya civilization and how their ancient discoveries paved the way for how we shape our daily lives. It features over 300 artifacts to explore and will run through January 3, 2021. The Maya were made up of astronomers, mathematicians, inventors, and gods. Some of their developments include rubber balls, the number zero, chocolate, and calendars by studying the stars. / Image: Mike Menke // Published: 7.23.20
The Cincinnati Museum Center reopened on Friday, July 17th with plenty of safety measures in place. Aside from increased cleaning procedures, they are also operating at or below 25 percent capacity, which means they’ll be using timed tickets for both members and guests. Visitors are also asked to wear masks (with exceptions to those with health restrictions, anyone unable to remove the face mask without assistance, and those under six years old) and keep six feet apart from one another.{ } (NOTE: the photos in this gallery were shot prior to the COVID-19 shutdown of the museum, right before the exhibit was set to open in March.) / Image: Mike Menke // Published: 7.23.20
Other changes at the museum include updated hours. They are open Thursday through Monday from 10 AM to 4 PM. To avoid contact with the parking machine, guests will also pay for parking when purchasing tickets online or at the box office. Parking is still free for members. Additionally, the museum has introduced various interactives that can be accessed with a phone app to keep visitors engaged in learning without having to touch buttons other people have pressed. / Image: Mike Menke // Published: 7.23.20
