Jack Wood Gallery Is The Best Place To Get Vintage Prints For Your Hip New Apartment

History repeats itself, amiright guys?

Consider this – it’s early in the century and every fashionable urbanist wants a bicycle. Luckily, every bicycle company wants to sell them one. To do so, they enlist the world’s foremost artists to do what they do best: make art.

The result? Bicycle posters.

Except, modern buzzwords notwithstanding, what I just described isn’t the present, it’s the early Twentieth Century.

Yep. Bicycle posters. They were popular at the turn-of-the-century, and they’re popular again now. Together with vintage posters depicting countless other subjects, they deck the walls of nearly every rehabbed loft, condo, and apartment in the city.

And the best place to get them in Cincinnati? Jack Wood Gallery.

VINTAGE POSTERS GALORE

We started with bicycle posters because that’s where Jack Wood’s poster infatuation began. Living in London in the 1980s, Wood got his hands on a few bicycle prints and instantly fell in love.

Twenty-five years of collecting later, Wood’s shop is a Cincinnati staple. You might remember it was originally located in O’Bryonville, but Wood relocated the shop to Over-the-Rhine in 2013 and business has been growing ever since.

Time for some name-dropping... Wood has collected originals from artists like Toulouse-Lautrec, Mucha, Picasso, Dufy, Leger, Miro, Matisse, Chagall, Carzou, Brayer, and Buffet.

(See, and you’ll never know whether I didn’t make most of those up. Picasso? C’mon. Fooling exactly no one.)

Most impressive is that these posters aren’t from a laser printing machine in some factory in the middle of nowhere. They’re originals. That fact hits you hard when you walk into Jack Wood Gallery and you see piles on top of piles of prints, all gorgeous, all of the highest quality.

So, with that, I’m gonna stop writing about Jack Wood Gallery and simply issue this command: Go there. You’ll be happy you did. And you might come away with some fabulous vintage eye candy.
