Purrfect Day Café is Northern Kentucky’s first ever cat café. Owner Chuck Patton opened the space in Covington in the fall of 2020, partnering with the Kenton County Animal Services (KCAS) to become a foster facility with the goal of changing the way others view and go through the animal adoption process. While guests can mix and mingle with the cats to visualize what it would be like to take them home if they’re interested in adoption, there’s also a designated area to eat and drink. ADDRESS: 25 West 8th Street (41011) / Image: Rose Brewington // Published: 2.18.21
The café is part kitty play room and part lounge and separated by a wall so you can visit the café without even going into the kitty room. (Although how could you resist?!) The rooms are even separated by separate HVAC systems. The Roebling Bridge-themed bar serves whatever “meowcohol” you prefer. From “The Purrfect Meowmosa” to “Purr-bon,” they have something for everyone. If meowcohol isn’t your thing, don’t worry—they have plenty of “paw-fee” and “kitt-tea” options to sip, too. / Image: Rose Brewington // Published: 2.18.21
KCAS’s network spans several counties in Kentucky and Ohio, so some kitties are transferred from shelters that simply do not have the resources to support the cats. All cats and kittens are fully vetted before making their way to the kitty lounge. They have been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, and have received their flea and de-wormer treatments, as well as their basic booster shots. They’ve also tested negative for both FeLV and FIV, and kitties four months and older have received their rabies vaccination, so you can feel confident that they’re ready to start their lives in their fur-ever home. / Image: Rose Brewington // Published: 2.18.21
If you want to visit and play with the cats, you must make a reservation ahead of time and pay a fee to enter the cat lounge (however, there is no fee if you just plan to enter the café). This fee helps keep the lights on and doors open, but also helps to cover extra supplies for the kitties that KCAS cannot provide. With that reservation, you get 50 minutes to play and cuddle with all of the kitties. While food isn’t allowed in the cat lounge, drinks are permitted during your session. / Image: Rose Brewington // Published: 2.18.21
The menu features snacks and pastries, and you’re definitely in for a treat if cat puns are your thing. They have everything from “Paw-pcorn” made by a Louisville local business called The Popcorn Station to “Purr-etzels” which are provided by Yankee Doodle Deli, a company based in Covington that supports research for Parkinson’s disease. / Image: Rose Brewington // Published: 2.18.21
Adopting through a cat café is a great way to find the perfect kitty to add to your family. By being able to spend time and play with them, and observe how they interact with other people and kitties, you get a sense of which cat will fit best in your home and situation. If you’re actively looking to adopt, just let one of the staff members know and they can walk you through the whole process. / Image: Rose Brewington // Published: 2.18.21
