The current Peters Cartridge Factory structures were built between 1916 and 1919. It was originally built to be an old gunpowder factory. Peters, founded in 1887, was the first company to make machine-loaded shotgun shells. During WWI (its heyday) it produced 1.5 million ammunition cartridges per day for Allied troops. It resumed heavy manufacturing again for WWII. Peters was regarded as a leader in ammo production during the early 20th century. The factory stopped making ammo in 1944. After its life as a gunpowder factory, the facility became a phonograph record plant for a few years before Seagram distillers bought it, using the warehouse as storage for whiskey barrels. It housed a couple other things before it was finally left unused. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 2.28.19
