Hasn’t it always been a dream of yours to run around Cincinnati dressed as a gorilla? (Yes? Cool, me too!) Well, on Sunday, April 2, you’ll be able to do just that.
Say hello to the Cincinnati Gorilla Run. It’s a little weird, it’s a lot of fun, and it’s the only opportunity you’ll have in 2017 to walk away from a 5k with a full-body gorilla suit.
ABOUT THOSE GORILLAS
The Gorilla Run is sponsored by The Gorilla Glue Company, and that’s neither a mere coincidence nor a marketing gimmick. In fact, the Gorilla Run benefits the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, an international nonprofit dedicated to the conservation and protection of African Mountain Gorillas and their habitats.
When the fund was started in 1983, there were only 248 Mountain Gorillas left in the world. Thanks to its efforts, today Mountain Gorillas number approximately 880. Talk about your success stories!
What’ll your support do? It’ll allow the fund to further expand its research and veterinary programs, meaning this animal that can’t survive outside its natural habitat will have an even better chance at reaching population stability.
READY, SET, GO-RILLA!
The 2017 race will mark the 6th annual Cincinnati Gorilla Run. Here are a few bullet points to steer you in the right direction:
Register! You can register online until April 1, or you can register on race day (Sunday, April 2) from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse where the race begins.
Pick Up Your Suit! The suit is included in the entry fee, and as I noted above, you get to keep it. Pick yours up at a Bob Roncker’s Running Spot (where else?) the week before the race. Here are the pickup times.
Race! The race begins at 11 a.m. You can go as fast or as slow as you like, and strollers are allowed.
Celebrate! After the run, settle into Montgomery Inn Boathouse where you’ll be treated to a lunch provided by Montgomery Inn and HoneyBaked Ham. A beer garden will also be available with music from a DJ.
