Downtown dwellers, workers, and casual visitors alike might've noticed a new look for an existing apartment tower on Broadway. Lytle Tower, located at the northwest corner of 4th and Broadway, is now known as Edgar. While the rebrand changes the name and logo, the 113 apartments themselves have also undergone a years-long renovation effort to improve their desirability. The building is managed by Rookwood Properties. ADDRESS: 405 Broadway (45202) / Image: Phil Armstrong // Published: 12.28.20
The reason for the name change and rebrand is the result of it being confused for Lytle One—the massive apartment tower at the edge of the Ohio River at Yeatman's Cove. “While ‘Lytle’ is a recognizable household name in Cincinnati, we’ve found our apartment building is often confused for or buried among other Lytle associated businesses and properties.” says Fred Kanter, Vice President of Rookwood Properties. “Edgar differentiates ourselves in the competitive downtown market, with a refreshing, new brand, while still honoring a historic and notable resident.” / Image: Phil Armstrong // Published: 12.28.20
The name 'Edgar' is in reference to one of the building's notable former residents, Edgar Friedlander, who lived there for 30 years. Friedlander was an investment banker and philanthropist who also was the Cincinnati-area president of the Boy Scouts, as well as the Cincinnati Stock Exchange. He was also a manager of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and served as the Hamilton County Treasurer. During his time as Treasurer, he donated his entire salary to various charities. / Image: Phil Armstrong // Published: 12.28.20
The building was originally built in the 1920s as the Broadway Hotel. It was later converted to apartments and was purchased in the early '70s by Rookwood Properties founder, Robert Kanter. Rookwood Properties now has 25 apartment communities in Ohio, Kentucky, and South Carolina. / Image: Phil Armstrong // Published: 12.28.20
The 12-story, 113 unit tower features studio and one bedroom apartments, each with new wood-inspired floors, window shades, in-unit washer/dryers, custom walk-in closets, and other amenities that have become standard for upscale Downtown living communities. The building includes its own fitness center, communal lounge with complementary WIFI and coffee, and auxiliary bike storage. Studio apartments start at $815 a month. / Image: Phil Armstrong // Published: 12.28.20
Edgar's location is ideal for those who want to live in a quieter part of Downtown with quick access to all the hotspots that make inner-city living great. It's a few blocks from Fountain Square, Smale Park, Great American Ballpark, Lytle Park, Taft Theater, and two blocks from the streetcar stop at 4th and Main Streets, which can get you easily around Downtown and Over-the-Rhine. It is especially attractive to those working for P&G, as it's one block from the corporate headquarters at 5th and Broadway. / Image: Phil Armstrong // Published: 12.28.20
