Chris Merrill owns the Bellevue Barbershop at the corner of Taylor Avenue and Center Street in Bellevue, KY. He opened the shop in August 2019 to bring community-based, traditional barbering with a modern edge to the river city. While Bellevue residents are the obvious clientele, the shop cuts the hair of many from all over the Tri-state. The Bellevue Barbershop is where generations of men can get a fresh cut for a reasonable price. "It's a place for people of all backgrounds to come and bond together," Chris says. To him, it's not just about the haircut; it's about building friendships within the community he serves. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 7.10.20

The barbershop is filled with eclectic decor. From old-timey machinery and trinkets to a velvet Elvis painting, seafoam green walls, and a taxidermied zebra head, there's no shortage of visuals inside the shop. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 7.10.20
Chris is a former pipefitter who quit his job to follow his passion for going to barbering school and starting a shop of his own. "My only complaint is I wish I'd done it sooner. I have more friends than ever," he says. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 7.10.20

Clients are encouraged to book online (Bellevue-Barbershop.com) to ensure they don't have to wait for a cut. If they do, they get free refreshments from the fridge. The shop is cash only, and a standard haircut costs $25. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 7.10.20
"It’s somewhere for me to learn and grow professionally,” says barber Konnor Kindle. He got into barbering because he received a bad haircut years ago and went to school to learn to do it himself. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 7.10.20
