The house at 102 Mound Avenue wasn’t always a single-family dwelling. When construction finished in the early 1890s, it was home to Milford’s Universalist Church. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 8.19.20
In 1888, Sarah Scott and her sister founded the Society of the Universalists of Milford and based it out of their home. When they outgrew that space, a Universalist church was constructed at 102 Mound Avenue. The church was christened on September 8, 1892 as St. Paul’s, and the Reverend W.M. Backus was its first pastor. By the 1950s, the Universalists moved on from the building. Though the three-bedroom, one and a half bathroom, 3,497-square-foot house has been modernized, it still retains several features that harken back to its past. Vertical pocket doors, which can be pulled down or raised up, are among its most unique features. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 8.19.20
The home has high ceilings and tall windows, drawing in lots of light and adding to an atmosphere of lightness throughout the house. / Image: Phil Armstrong, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 8.19.20
