EmPower Studio LLC gets your body and mind moving with group fitness classes that feature healing sessions at the end of each session. Christie Stayton, a fitness instructor and Reiki master, owns the positive, uplifting Ludlow space. Aside from strengthening workouts, dance classes, and kickboxing, the gym also offers classes like 'Pound,' which incorporates drum sticks into the workout. After Christie spent thousands of dollars on personal trainers to lose 150 pounds, she knew she wanted to provide a more affordable and supportive workout option to members of her community. The studio is a former Catholic school that sat vacant for four years before Christie bought it and renovated it into the fitness studio. As a kid, she’d walk by the school with her grandma, point to the building next to the school that formerly housed nuns, and say that it would be her house one day. Sure enough, she bought the former residence and turned it into her own abode in 2013. She opened the old schoolhouse as EmPower Studio LLC in 2017. / Image: Katie Robinson, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 9.22.19
The atmosphere is very friendly and motivational. Class members have described it as a personal, intimate space where clients can look to instructors for inspiration and guidance in reaching their fitness goals. Christie’s daughter, niece, and some long-time friends are class instructors in the family-owned studio. / Image: Katie Robinson, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 9.22.19
Some of the classes offered at EmPower include EmPowerStrong, a mix of cardio kickboxing mixed with strength training; Pound, a drumming fitness class; EmPowerShred, an all-strength training class;, GRL.PWR, a fighter and dance style class taught by Christie and her daughter, Savanna; and Zumba and belly dancing classes, too. 'Yogatta Breathe' is a yoga session led by Dianna Dorsey, who also teaches Chair Yoga that’s offered to senior citizens for only $2. / Image: Katie Robinson, Cincinnati Refined // Published: 9.22.19
