Come For The Drinks, Stay For The Wings At The Pony OTR

Over-the-Rhine is popular at the moment. So popular, in fact, I ran into people from Batavia at Bockfest last weekend who asked for directions to Main Street. The draw of the neighborhood for those who actively need to trek to get to it is undeniable.

Considering the transience of OTR's economic nourishment on Friday and Saturday nights, it's no wonder every bar and restaurant below Liberty is filled with an abundance of Greater Cincinnati folks dwarfing the populace of the community's residents. And when it comes to true neighborhood bars in Over-the-Rhine, I'm not sure I need more than a single hand to count them.

I'll save the pinky finger for The Pony OTR, though. And I'll use it to promise you it's worth checking out.

I realize by virtue of writing about it here, it'll reach non-residents and become more popular, but that's the point. Everyone deserves to experience the Pony's delicious pub menu and comfortable atmosphere. Why keep a good thing to yourself when it exists for everyone?

When you walk in, you're greeted by semi-private booths to the left, and a handsome bar to the right. High-tops divide the middle of the pub, completing the transition from bar to booth. Soft green lamps hang over rich cherry counters and tables, with two exposed brick walls sandwiching it all between them. Notably (and thankfully) absent is the Edison bulb/industrial-chic decor that's been the recurring face of new development for the last several years.

And while you might not consider pub grub to be especially enticing, reserve judgment here. Walking into the Pony and randomly seeing friends is great, but you can't high five or shake their hands because they're busy holding a burger or covered in wing sauce. There's a reason this place always seems to have dishes firing out of the kitchen to residents who keep returning to catch them.

I can only drone on for so long before hunger knocks the food adjectives out of my head. Scroll up to see a photo gallery of menu items and beer (yay, beer!) that'll do more to convince you to visit The Pony OTR.
