S'more Bar - 18.jpg
Meggie Kraus left behind a career as an archaeologist to start her own thing. And that “own thing” ended up being speciality marshmallow made sans corn syrup, preservatives, and artificial flavors. Quaintrelle Confections (the formal name of her business) first opened in April of 2016. In December of last year, she moved into a storefront in OTR and has enhanced her offerings with a full-on s’more bar. OTR's New S'more Bar Is Like Something Out Of A Childhood Dream

Childhood is wrapped up in a big ol’ Snuggie’s worth of nostalgia, from the sleepover parties to the tooth fairy to recess. Wow, recess. Remember recess, both the cartoon show and the break from school? Those were the days.

That's why we try our darnedest to retread old, familiar territory. Case in point: There was a Onesie Pub Crawl in OTR last week.

So yeah, I guess the thought of growing up and growing older is one we’re having a hard time embracing. And it makes sense. Adulthood comes with responsibility, stress, bills But you know what it also comes with? The freedom to consume as many s’mores as we want. We don’t even have to eat our veggies first.

Which brings me to 29-year-old Meggie Kraus, who is capitalizing on the nostalgia of childhood in a pretty awesome way. In April of 2016, Kraus started Quaintrelle Confections, which makes marshmallows sans corn syrup, preservatives, and artificial flavors/colors. The marshmallow business grew so popular that — after spending months cooking from home — she moved into an incubator kitchen in November of 2016. The demand for Kraus’ uniquely creamy and soft mallows kept building. Ultimately, it forced her to move into a storefront, which she did in December of 2017. The brick and mortar shop is located on Main Street in Over-the-Rhine and known as S’more Bar.

Kraus' creative take on marshmallows, with flavors like snickerdoodle, peppermint, and bourbon, is how it all started. And it’s still a good part of her business, but it’s the novelty of the s’more bar that has taken off in recent weeks. Whether you want to keep it simple by ordering a classic s’more, or test your limits by building your own customized sandwich of ooey gooey goodness, it's your call.

S’mores cost five dollars. When it comes to finding a quick n' easy time travel machine that'll deliver you straight to your childhood backyard (figuratively speaking, of course), this is one of the best deals in town. It's also the most delicious.
