I’m not entirely sure how I stumbled upon Press on Monmouth in Newport, but that’s neither here nor there. All I know is that I’m glad I did.
The fast-casual breakfast/brunch spot serves up sandwiches, salads, paninis, waffles, etc. It also offers craft beer and savory coffee from La Terza Roasterie. This sleek n’ modern cafe has a vibe that whispers: "We'll see you again soon. You know you can't resist our effortless charm." Kinda true. And when you find out who the owners are, that’ll come as no surprise.
Christy, Tony, and Dominic Cafeo are the proprietors of the shop. You might also know them from Jefferson Social, Incline Public House, Somm Wine Bar, and the Bell Event Centre. So yeah, this is not their first rodeo (ahem, I mean “restaurant”).
Heading up the kitchen is Jason Campbell, who previously worked for the Cafeo family at the Bell Event Centre and the Incline Public House. He’s a graduate of the Midwest Culinary Institute at Cincinnati State. And when we asked Campbell what he’d like Press on Monmouth to be best known for, here was his response: “Our new, healthy and innovative breakfast quinoa bowls, loaded tots, and $4 draft craft pints.”
Uh, what did you say? Four-dollar draft craft pints. I told ya the vibe is one that’ll have you coming back for more.
