You ate Tex Mex last night, and the day before that you ate a big ol’ burger.
You’re dog tired of hotdogs.
You’re questioning why you’ve had BBQ 8 billion times this month.
And you’ll be a wet noodle if you have to eat one more plate of pasta this summer.
So where on the landscape can you go that’ll solve your heat-stricken hunger?
You’re thinkin’ all wrong, friend. You need to get yourself off the land entirely and look toward the Atlantic. Whet that appetite with something fresh from the sea.
But I live in the Midwest... And the only body of water near here is a river I wouldn’t dip a toe in, let alone eat from.
Not to worry. We know just the place. It’s called Washington Platform; and it’s anchored in the middle of Downtown Cincinnati.
WHAT’S THE PLATFORM?
It’s a 30-year-old saloon and restaurant on the corner of Court and Elm Streets that’ll have you moving your land-loving legs toward their fantastic nautical menu in no time flat. They have a full bar, two well-furnished dining rooms, and an area where live jazz is played on certain days.
WHAT AM I FISHIN’ FOR?
Oysters on the half shell, grilled salmon salad, shrimp & andouille grits, and so many others. Jon Diebold (head chef & owner) has created the delicious menu.
Ps: The Oyster Po’ Boy that is to die for.
WHAT’S THE UNIFORM?
It sails within the international waters of casual and fine dining. Pretty sure that's now known as "fine casual." It's great food at a fair price. Come in shorts and a t-shirt, come in a suit, or come in a full-on pirate outfit. As long as you don’t act like Blackbeard, everyone’s welcome at the Platform.
I JUST WOKE UP
Relax! The Platform caters to the weekend brunch crowd. So don’t worry your pretty little head about that. Get a Kentucky Hot Brown, homemade quiche, or Hometown Hangtown Fry (which is comprised of fried potatoes, fresh fried oysters, chorizo goetta, cheese, and tomato).
BUT IS THE SEAFOOD REALLY THAT GOOD?
Yes, or else we wouldn't be covering them.
Also, Washington Platform heads up the annual Oyster Festival because they're the destination for seafood downtown.
Washington Platform is located at 1000 Elm St, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
