The election is over. Cincinnatians have the same mayor and a few new faces on City Council. It's back to business as usual over on Plum Street.
But there's actually a daily election still happening, one many of us morning-lovers (and, perhaps, morning-sufferers) vote in every day. Unbeknownst to many non-City Hall staff, there's an incredible coffee shop just past the front doors of Cincy's municipal mansion, and it's routinely campaigning for your vote to serve you your first cup of joe for the day.
BLOC Coffee, the popular Price Hill coffee shop, has a modest, yet mighty location there. It's tiny; only about 30 feet in length and 7 feet wide. Don't be fooled by its lilliputian footprint, though, for its quality is as substantial as any large local java joint.
It serves Deeper Roots coffee as well as a rotating non-local brand (as of this writing, Spyhouse from Minneapolis). Breakfast and lunch menu items complement its coffee selection, attracting myriad sustenance seekers throughout the day.
You need to pass through City Hall's metal detector to get to BLOC's shop, but the security guards stationed there are friendly. It's a painless process and worth the extra step to get inside. It's a public building, so everyone has a right to go inside during open hours.
Take your cup and wander Hall's halls (trust me, you won't regret it) or relax in the casual lounge area just beyond the coffee counter. However you start your day with BLOC, you've done your civic duty and voted well.
