Some of the Finest Rugs Around Are Coming to OTR

The perfect accent to a room is a beautiful rug. But what happens when your room isn’t a standard size? Or what if you want something made with high-quality material and natural fibers but your local big box store doesn't have what you're looking for?

That's where Rug Gallery enters the picture.

The Rug Gallery, whose showroom is in Blue Ash, is heaven for anyone into décor, art, texture, and home décor. They not only carry rugs from around the world (sourced directly from their makers), they can custom-create almost anything you can imagine.

See a rug, but want a color changed? They can do that. See wool wall-to-wall carpeting that you’d like as an area rug instead? Their two master flooring installers will hand-cut and bind the rug in their warehouse. They’ve been in the business since 1972 and know a thing or two about rugs, flooring, and how best to fit your home on a budget.

Speaking of 1972, The Rug Gallery started out when Sam Presnell, who still owns the business, purchased a rug for his own personal use. Soon, he opened a store selling rugs, beaded curtains, and lava lamps (how groovy) in Clifton. Sam picked and sold the rugs, and his wife Arlene ran HR and accounting until she retired. The Rug Gallery moved to Montgomery in the 1980s, and to their current, 21,000-square-foot facility in Blue Ash in 1994. And it’s a family affair: son Beau is now involved in the business, as well.

The Rug Gallery's rugs are made with exquisite material. It sells everything from recycled sari silk to soft wool and natural fibers, like sisal. It even has cutting-edge flooring that is pet, child, and life-proof (while mimicking expensive marble and rare woods). Whether you’re looking for hand-knotted, machine-woven, or wall-to-wall carpet, they blend modern, computer-aided designs with traditional Nepalese techniques at many different price points. Rug Gallery designers work with you to identify your style, materials, and budget, then measure your room for you. Then, you can go back into the warehouse to get hands-on with the materials and watch the master installers at work.

It’s pretty impressive.

The Rug Gallery is taking their show on the road for Final Friday and Second Sunday in Over-the-Rhine. They’ll be bringing a carefully curated selection of area rugs that are focused on a transitional, Bohemian Chic feel, with sizes that are more compatible with city condo and apartment living. To do this, they’re partnering with Frameshop OTR to take over the store from June 28th through July 14th. There, you can see their rugs, talk with designers, and learn how the rugs are made by the people who work with rug-makers from all around the world.

There will be some surprises and treats too, including blowout specials on 2x3 hand-knotted rugs for entryways, as well as a selection of Bohemian chic, Turkish, Anatolian, and Traditional to Transitional Modern rugs. To sweeten the deal, wine and beer will be offered, and giveaways/raffles will be happening, too.

Stop in on one of those days to get a feel for some of the most unique rugs and flooring in our area (and possibly even in the nation).
