The Meshewa House is an event space on Turner Farm in Indian Hill that hosts weddings, corporate functions, retreats, social gatherings, and classes. The space was renovated in September 2019 to preserve the property and the bucolic, bygone way of life it evokes. Visit their{ }website{ }for rental availability. Cait Barnett, marketing and communications manager on the property, says their hope is that the venue is embraced by the community as a comfortable and welcoming destination. "We want it to be a place where people can not only gather, but also connect with the land," she says. "At Turner Farm, it is within our mission statement to be stewards of the land, recognizing that it is the land that feeds us in body, mind, and spirit." / Image: Elizabeth A.
The original mansion caught fire in 1977 and suffered significant damage on the top floors, which were deemed irreparable. It was restored to a semblance of its former glory through the renovation of every square inch by architect Mark Dunkley and interior decorators Interiors by Kurtinitis. The house was decorated with an eye to the past. Traditional furnishings and art are reminders of the era it was built, and equine-inspired touches pay homage to its original purpose. / Image: Elizabeth A. Lowry // Published: 10.12.20

In the Shawnee language, “meshewa” translates to “horses.” The land surrounding the house was developed in the 1920s as part of the evolving equestrian community of Indian Hill. Construction on The Meshewa House was completed for Mary Stephenson in 1935, and the grand estate was almost entirely self-sustaining during the war years and middle part of the 20th century. In 1967, Mary Stephenson bought the estate’s neighboring 60-acre farm from the original Turner family, who had owned and operated it as one of the original homestead farms in Indian Hill since the mid-1800s. / Image: Elizabeth A. If given the chance, guests of The Meshewa House should take the opportunity to experience other aspects of Turner Farm and its 230+ acres. The working organic farm is dedicated to educating and feeding the Cincinnati-area community and features beautiful grounds, a teaching kitchen, horse stables, and more. / Image: Elizabeth A.
