Grab Your Golden Ticket to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s treasured tale, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, makes its Queen City debut at the Aronoff Center this week. It’s the kickoff to Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Cincinnati’s 18/19 season presented by TriHealth.

The show promises a treat for audiences!

Families and kids (of all ages, most especially 8+) will love the story of Willy Wonka, world famous inventor of the Everlasting Gobstopper. He’s just made an astonishing announcement: His marvelous, mysterious factory is opening its gates, but only to a lucky few. That includes our hero, Charlie Bucket, whose hardscrabble life could definitely use some sweetening. He and four other Golden Ticket winners will go on an amazing journey through Wonka’s world of pure imagination.

Against the backdrop of Wonka’s magical and psychedelic factory, a top-notch cast performs songs from the beloved 1971 film, including "Pure Imagination," "The Candy Man," and "I've Got a Golden Ticket," alongside a fun new score from the songwriters from Hairspray. Tony-award winning director Jack O’Brien has staged a whimsical new telling of this classic. Brightly colored costumes and fantastical sets bring the factory and its characters to vivid life.

The cast includes two CCM grads (Joe Moeller and Joel Newsome). Our titular character, the darling Charlie Bucket, is played by three different talented child actors (this varies by performance). Noah Weisberg has a very large top hat to fill as Willy Wonka—and he does so admirably.
