There’s a gated, modestly-sized parking lot at the corner of Republic and Liberty Streets. In that lot is a towering four-story mural featuring prominent primary colors and an even more prominent historic Cincinnati figure: legendary boxer Ezzard Charles.
Unless you’re visually impaired, you can’t miss it. It’s a left hook to the senses the first time you see it. I’m a regular glass jaw when it comes to art at that scale, and the Ezzard mural has me on the ropes every time I walk past it. In my opinion, it’s one of the finest ArtWorks murals in Over-the-Rhine.
But here’s the even better part: you can actually live in that building.
ON THE MARKET: 1537 REPUBLIC STREET #2
The returning champion is a condo that spans four floors (three of which are accessible in Unit #2) and has a basement that bobs and weaves its way under the street. The first floor is a humble foyer that introduces the spiral staircase and a private elevator. But don’t worry, it’s pulling punches at this point. Let’s head upstairs.
The third floor of the building is where the condo goes toe-to-toe with the best in the neighborhood. There, you’ll find two bedrooms, two full bathrooms decked out in ceramic tile and ornate stone countertops, an office/den, and a laundry room. Additionally, there are wood floors, exposed brick walls, recessed lighting, built-in shelves, and all the charm of an 1890s brawler renovated into a modern home.
The round's not over yet. Let's hop up to the fourth floor. There, a half bathroom and the living room head up the front while a haymaker of a contemporary kitchen occupies the back half of the level.
But the main event, as far as I’m concerned, is the massive outdoor patio high in the Over-the-Rhine sky. With a sweeping view and plenty of room to entertain friends, this feature alone is the reason the reigning champ is still on top.
Wanna live here? The heavyweight challenger with a purse of $569,900 can take it out of the ring for good.
Head to the gallery for the final K-O. You're gonna want to see this place.
