How do you grow a business from working off of card tables to occupying nearly 5,000-square-feet of space to showcase the furniture, flooring, and home accessories you’ve hand picked in under a year ? Easy—all you need is good taste.
That simple strategy worked for Cindy and Tina Carrelli of Carrelli Interior Design, an aunt-and-niece duo each with over 20 years of experience at the likes of Valerie Makstell Interiors and Globe Furniture Market. In 2016, the pair decided to open their own design studio and retail furniture gallery, and, as Cindy points out, “response was so fantastic that we outgrew our original space pretty quickly.”
Also on their side? A demand for their craft on their native West Side. “The fact that there is nothing like us over here—where you can actually come in and shop our showroom—made this side of town the perfect spot,” Cindy says.
In addition to interior design services, Cindy and Tina also offer assistance designing both new builds and complete home remodels alike. Their biggest attraction, however, may be the range of options for every taste and budget. Whether you're looking for zebra-print upholstered chairs for your dining room or just the right global-inspired area rug to pull your living room together, they have it. And if you can’t find—or don’t know—what you want, Cindy and Tina are there to guide you. “Our clients come to us for direction,” Tina explains. “It’s just like accessorizing that perfect little black dress you bought years ago—sometimes you need someone else to point out new shoes and jewelry to go with it.”
Cindy and Tina’s tastes clearly resonate; clients stop by the studio weekly to check out new inventory. Or maybe it has something do with the free biscotti, coffee, wine, and good company? It should come as no surprise that 60% of the Carrelli's business is referral-based.
“We’re very laid-back and are always laughing,” Cindy says. “Going through a redesign should be fun and painless, not laborious.”
