Two Of The Guys Behind Lumenocity Are Gearing Up For The City's Next Big Festival

I read a quote recently that stuck with me.

You’re never going to be 100% ready and it’s never going to be just the right time, but that’s the point. It means that every moment is also the right moment. If you want it, you just have to do it.

It’s this notion of not being ready but forging head anyway that comes to mind when I think of Brave Berlin, the incredibly nimble, four-person agency operation founded by Steve McGowan and Dan Reynolds. If you have no idea who or what I’m talking about, perhaps Lumenocity rings a bell. Remember those incredible architectural light mapping displays? Well, Steve & Dan (who formerly worked together, both at FRCH and Landor) were the creatives behind that, along with help from other folks, of course.

And soon, they’ll be gearing up for another mind-bending Cincinnati festival: BLINK. It’s coming up in October. But before we dive into that, let’s get a full rundown on these two influential creatives and their agency.

BRAVE DESCRIBES the type of clients and people with whom they want to work i.e. those who are willing to take risks — fail even.

BERLIN IS a place of creative freedom and thus represents a celebration of arts & culture.

THEY STARTED Brave Berlin in 2013 with a goal of reconnecting to the arts.

LUMENOCITY WAS BASICALLY Steve & Dan saying yes to a cold call that sounded amazing.

Let me explain… Tim Maloney (of the Haile Foundation) was on the committee in charge of welcoming Louis Langree, CSO’s incoming music director. He’d seen mapping exhibits in Europe and was very impressed. After some digging, he learned about Steve & Dan (who had experience in this arena) and gave ‘em a call. The rest, as they say, is history.

BLINK IS GONNA be a four-day spectacle of pure awesome. Partnering with The Haile Foundation, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, AGAR, and Artworks, BLINK will be a wonderland of architectural projection mapping, light-based art & interactivity, and a more permanent installation of world class street art. It’ll run October 12-15 and cover 20 city blocks, north to south from The Banks to Findlay Market.

THE THING THAT sets these guys apart from other, smaller agencies is experience. “We’ve been working together so long, we rarely come across a creative challenge that we haven’t faced before,” said Dan.

YOU SHOULD COME to them if you want an unconventional solution to your [insert: problem/ concept/ event/ what have you].

So basically, if you’re looking for something totally unexpected but likely super cool and worthy of a lasting impression, you reach out to Steve & Dan of Brave Berlin. Got it? Yep. Sure do.
