“I’ll have a Monkey Shoulder on the rocks with a splash of soda and a lemon please,” I say to the bartender. He turns around, spanning the 15 (or so)-foot bar, and grabs the scotch bottle. Meanwhile, I stand there in awe in awe of this 100-year-old antique, hand-carved bar from England in awe of the charming fireplace and old stone walls in awe of the English-style pub that isn’t located in Hyde Park or Mt. Lookout. Rather, it’s the private bar of someone’s home in Indian Hill. A home—as it turns out—that could be yours.
The scene above, where I order that Monkey Shoulder, was imagined. But again, if you were to own this property, that certainly could (and should) happen on a daily occurrence. And when you run out of the 2016 Rombauer Chardonnay upstairs, no problem. Just head downstairs to the 2,000-bottle capacity climate-controlled wine cellar. (Yep, it exists.)
Clearly, the indoor living in this 13,000-square-foot abode is excellent, but that’s not what sets this place apart. Once you venture outside the main house and the guest house — yes, that exists too — it’s the backyard that will leave you with your jaw on the pavement. It’s cool. My jaw was splayed on the manicured grounds for a cool five minutes the first time I witnessed those terraced gardens. And that pool. Oh, that sweet, hello sexy pool. It’s divine.
So let’s be real for a minute. If you owned 4905 Taft Place, you certainly could leave your home. Sure, you could. But why would you? ‘Cause if my house were essentially a resort, I’m pretty sure I’d be set for life.
